Birthday in Belgrade

In September after my summer language course, I flew over to Belgrad the capital of Serbia to be with my Serbian friend Andrea. Our birthdays are only one day apart and so we thought it would be a great idea to celebrate it together. I really didn’t know what to expect before I went there but I really enjoyed my time. Thank you Andrea and her lovely sister for hosting me.

Its interesting to see a different side of Europe. Belgrad is bustling with culture and art. Its a really eye opening experience to be at a place with such a long and difficult history, especially for someone from Singapore which is a really young country. I get to experience how history and politics are always on the people’s mind and how deeply ingrained it is in their daily lives and identity as a Serb.

We also visited my friend’s hometown in Sopot and we visited another friend in Novi Sad. On my birthday itself Andrea brought me to a concert playing Bach as well as a set of pieces by a Serbian composer.
